Divers Alert Network (DAN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit medical & research organization dedicated to the safety and health of recreational scuba divers and is associated with Duke University Medical Center.
Founded in 1980, DAN has served as a lifeline for the scuba industry by operating the only 24-hour diving emergency hotline, a lifesaving service for injured divers. Additionally, DAN operates a diving medical information hotline, conducts vital diving medical research, and develops and provides a number of first-aid and continuing education programs for everyone from beginning divers to medical professionals.
DAN is supported by the largest association of recreational divers in the world through membership dues and donations. In return, members receive a number of important benefits including $100,000 emergency medical evacuation assistance, DAN educational publications, a subscription to Alert Diver magazine, and access to diving's first and foremost diving accident insurance coverage.

"I want to say a huge THANK YOU to DAN’s TravelAssist program! I've been a DAN member since 1992, and, thankfully, have never had a dive emergency. However, during our recent missionary trip to (inland) Honduras, I got heat exhaustion and gastroenteritis. My husband, Andy, thought to call DAN for medical referral. The doctor at TravelAssist directed us to the emergency room at Hospital Cemesa in San Pedro Sula. What an excellent referral to a clean, state-of-the-art medical facility! After a few hours getting intravenous fluids and antibiotics in the emergency room, I felt almost human once again. I can now testify to friends and buddies that DAN is not just for diving emergencies."- Estelle D. DAN Member Since 1992
